EURORAMA 2018

“Eurorama. One Europe of peoples in ethnographic film festivals”, at its twelfth edition this year, presents two days of ethnographic films selected among prize or award-winning ones from the major European festivals of ethnographic film. The Museo degli Usi e Costumi della Gente Trentina (Trentino Folklife Museum) regularly organizes this section of the Trento Film Festival, from this year in collaboration with the Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland.
The selected works are organised in four thematic strands, but it is possible to find multiple connections between the films, and the audience is encourages to find their own trajectories within the sidebar. Creative Resistances focuses on experiences of cultural and artistic activism that developed as a reponse to economic crisis in heterogeneous areas such as Spain, Romania, and Armenia. Perpetual Transitions presents films that expore the territories of the ex Soviet Union, from the shores of the Black Sea to eastern Siberia, and that highlight the continuous change that characterises them. The theme of travel is central, whether it is on board of a train that crosses Russia or in company of a reporter that roams rural Georgia. Communities of Care takes us close to communities where disability is not seen as a limitation, but where differently abled individuals are supported and allowed to be seen and to express themselves, both through the use of language and through art. Italian Views encourages us to observe with a different lens phenomena that take place in our country and that we are perhaps not used to find on a cinema screen.
In this edition, Eurorama once more offers the audience an opportunity to discover other worlds through ethnographic film. Ethnographic film thus reveals itself to have a great capacity to engage with contemporary and current themes with a critical and thoughful approach, and to do so through a deep engagement with the power of the image.
